Lymphatic Drainage
Manual & Brazilian · Aftercare Advice
Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) and Brazilian Lymphatic Drainage (BLD) both work with the lymphatic system to move fluid, reduce swelling, and support the body's natural detoxification. MLD uses gentle, rhythmic strokes, while BLD uses firmer, sculpting movements to debloat and define contours. The guidance below supports both treatments.
Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate
Drink plenty of water before and after your treatment. Aim for 1–2 litres of water per day to help flush toxins and support the lymphatic system in removing waste from your body.
Alcohol Abstinence
Avoid alcohol for at least 3 days before and after your treatment. Alcohol can dehydrate the body and place extra strain on the liver, counteracting the detoxifying benefits of lymphatic drainage.
Reduce Salt Intake
Limit salty and processed foods, which contribute to fluid retention and swelling. Choose fresh, whole foods and season lightly with herbs and spices instead.
Light Movement
Gentle movement such as walking, yoga, pilates or light cardio encourages lymph flow. Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours after your session, then resume gradually.
Skin Care
Use mild, hypoallergenic skincare products and avoid harsh chemicals, exfoliants or fragranced lotions on treated areas for 48 hours to protect the skin barrier.
Compression Garments
Wear compression garments as directed by your therapist to support drainage and maintain results, particularly after Brazilian Lymphatic Drainage or post-injury treatment.
Diet
Follow a balanced, anti-inflammatory diet rich in fresh fruit, vegetables, lean protein and healthy fats to support the body's natural detoxification processes.
Rest
Get adequate sleep and rest to allow your body to heal. Avoid excessive stress and allow yourself time to recover following your treatment.
